Dear Nyonyas and Babas,
In this month’s video, I am joined by Baba Chan Eng Thai and Nyonya Peggy Lee from our own choral group The Peranakan Voices (TPV), as well as Nyonya Stella Clare Wee, who organises events for our junior members.
Baba Eng Thai regales us with the origins of TPV and their role in TPAS’ outreach efforts and encourages TPAS members who love to sing and perform to join TPV. Do stay till the end of the video when Baba Eng Thai recites a pantun specially composed for TPAS. We are happy to share the English translation of the pantun here for your enjoyment:
Nyonya Peggy, who leads TPV, echoes Baba Eng Thai invitation to TPAS members to join their singing practices on every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at Joo Chiat Community Centre, 7:30 – 9:30 pm. She also humbly requests volunteer music teachers to step forward to teach TPV. Please do contact leetanpeggy@gmail.com directly if you are able to assist.
Nyonya Stella shares her excitement over the upcoming kebaya design workshop specially planned for our teenage members aged 12-18 where participants will be guided in designing their own kebaya by famed kebaya designer, Raymond Wong who is also a member of our General Committee. Do register for the 18 March event with events@peranakan.org.sg quickly as spaces are filling up fast!
We are pleased to inform that our annual Malam Jolly dinner for members to get together will be held sometime in July 2023. Do keep your eyes peeled for our announcement when the tables are ready for booking.
We hope you enjoy watching our video clips as much as we enjoy putting them together.
Warm wishes,
Nyonya Genevieve Peggy Jeffs
