Dear Nyonyas and Babas,

In this month’s video, I am joined by Baba Frederick Soh and Baba Tony Quek from our sister association Gunong Sayang (GSA), as well as Nyonya Stella Clare Wee, TPAS Head of Events.

Baba Frederick (scriptwriter and song composer) and Baba Tony (artistic director) spoke about the origin of the story for their upcoming wayang, Ada Kerak, Ada Nasi, happening on 27 & 28 September 2024. The play centers around family sacrifices, love, and gratitude, with the highlight being the wedding procession during the finale. Through a mix of English, Baba Malay, and Hokkien dialogue, GSA hopes to encourage the use of our language. Tickets are available at [https://www.sistic.com.sg/events/nasi0924]

The National Heritage Board (NHB) has invited TPAS to participate in this year’s Singapore Night Festival. TPAS will be setting up a Peranakan Mart outside the Peranakan Museum, selling Peranakan-themed merchandise by local businesses. Nyonya Stella invites everyone to visit our booth on the weekends of 30 & 31 August and 6 & 7 September from 7–11 p.m.

On 20 October at 2 p.m., Nyonya Stella will be organizing a briefing for the delegates attending the 35th Baba Nyonya International Convention in Phuket. It will be held in the Peranakan Museum’s Ixora Room.

Our biggest event before the end of the year will be our New Year’s Eve dinner, The Peranakan Ball 2024. Book your tables at http://www.tinyurl.com/peranakanball2024

We hope you enjoy watching our video clips as much as we enjoy putting them together.

Warm wishes,

Baba Raymond Wong
